Exploring Geelong

Geelong is about an hour drive from central Melbourne at around 65km distance. It is a port city and is the second largest Victorian city (behind Melbourne). Nearby attractions include the Great Ocean Road and surf beaches (including Bells Beach), Anglesea's Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery. The World Heritage Listed Budj Bim Cultural Landscape and eel traps are an easy day trip from Geelong. Buses

In order to ride the bus, you’ll need to buy a myki card, either physical or on your phone. You can do this on the Public Transport Victoria page, as well as see instructions on how to top up your card; either online, on the app, or at a machine.

Driving

Geelong is mostly walkable. Should you need a cab, they only cost a few dollars.
Driving is not a bad option either however, as you can then explore further along the Bellarine, reach the beaches and further with little hassle. There are also lots of car parks available around Geelong, we’ve added them to the conference Google Map for your viewing. Various app-based ride providers operate in Geelong, including Blacklane, Carmel, Didi Chuxing, GoCatch, Ola, Shebah and Uber.

Cycling

You can hire a bicycle and ride around Geelong during your stay. It is a popular recreational activity for tourists, Geelong has a discontinuous network of off-road trails and on-road bicycle lanes.
Geelong's major shared riding and walking trails are the Bellarine Rail Trail, Barwon river, Bay, Ted Wilson and Waurn Ponds creek trails. Have a look at the Visit Geelong and The Bellarine “On Your Bike” page for some routes you could try.

The Geelong Gaol Museum
The Geelong Gaol Museum is housed in the most intact 19th-century prison in Victoria. It opened in 1853 and closed in 1991 in the same conditions that you see today.

Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre is a significant attraction on Victoria's Great Ocean Road, offering free visitor's programs.

Salt Contemporary Art

Buckley Falls
Keep an eye out for tawny frogmouths, gang-gang cockatoos and rainbow lorikeets – all commonly spotted in the area along with many others. You may even be lucky enough to spot a swamp wallaby along the water’s edge.
